Rules & Regulations

All participants should be registered in a group of two. Each member of the group will give his/her own argument. And which team faces which topic will be decided on spot, though the theme of the debate will be available on the website on Friday the 14th.

However the following points needs to be kept it mind.

Format
The draw of lots will be held at 4:30 pm on the 15th of February (Saturday). Two motions will be provided. While one member of a team will speak on the first motion, the second member will speak on the other motion. It must be noted that  if a member of team 1 gets topic A opposition, then the other gets topic B proposition.

Each topic will have a proposition of 4 members, and a panel of opposition of 4 members.

Moderator, will open with a few words on the debate, floor debate and voting procedures. He will then call on the first speaker to begin the debate.

Timing: an alarm will be used at the venue, which will give a warning ring once at 3mins, and finally at 4mins. Then the questioning round lasts for 2 minutes, and can only be over ruled by the jurisdiction of the moderator.

Debate from the floor or Questions from audience
When it is time for audience participation, this part of the debate is open to anyone in the audience. It is the opportunity for the audience to join in the debate.Audience members must address questions and comments only to the moderator, who directs them to the appropriate person. A certain amount of time will be allocated to this and each speech will be limited to an agreed maximum length of time. The moderator is careful to direct the questions to the debaters fairly so that one student doesn't monopolize the time of debate session.
The Moderator will pick who can join in, and he alone has the power to end the floor debate and call upon the next speaker.

Tips: Remember that debating involves winning the votes of your audience, which can involve a lot more than simply making the best logical arguments. A few well placed jokes or anecdotes can often win votes! Don’t feel obliged to take every point of information offered – answering a few makes things a little more lively and interactive, but taking too many may interrupt the flow of your arguments.

The debaters are expected to prepare on their own before the event.

Use of hate speech, slangs or personal attack is strictly prohibited. Even the slightest adulteration with such, the other team wins by default and you will be asked to leave.

*Its advised you follow the rules exactly or your winning chances maybe penalised, all decisions will be at the jury's discretion.
