About the Speaker:
Prof. Arup K. Raychaudhuri received his M.Sc. from IIT Kanpur and Ph.D from Cornell
University, USA in 1980. He did his post-doctoral work at the Max Planck Institute for
Solid State Research in Stuttgart. Associated with IISc Bangalore since 1982, he served
as a Full Professor at the institute from 1997-2004 before he moved to S.N. Bose National
Centre for Basic Sciences in 2004 where he is currently the Director since 2006.
A fellow of all science academies in India, Prof. Raychaudhuri has received numerous
awards for scientific contributions. The most significant among them are the Shanti
Swarup Bhatnagar Award in Physical Sciences (1994), the Meghnad Saha Memorial Gold
Medal of the Asiatic Society (2004), the Homi Bhaba Medal of INSA (2008) and the National Research Award for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (2012).
His current areas of research includes physics of novel materials, nanofabrications and science and technology of nanomaterials. He has published about 250 papers in best international journals.
